Bios:

  • Dr. Michael Marquardt is Professor Emeritus of Human Resource Development and International Affairs at George Washington University. Mike was a co-founder and first President of the World Institute for Action Learning (WIAL), and now serves as Chair of the WIAL Global Advisory Committee. Mike is the author of 26 books and over 100 professional articles in the fields of leadership, learning, globalization and organizational change. Over one million copies of his publications have been sold in nearly a dozen languages worldwide. Dr. Marquardt's achievements and leadership have been recognized though numerous awards including the International Practitioner of the Year Award from the American Society for Training and Development and the Scholar of the Year Award from the Academy of Human Resource Development.   

  • Dr Cheryl Brook is Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Business and Law at the University of Portsmouth. She is a former senior manager having worked in the National Health Service and the third sector prior to moving into higher education. She completed her PhD in management learning at University of Lancaster in August 2010. Her thesis was on the development and practice of action learning in the UK NHS. Cheryl’s research interests include action learning, work-based learning and employee volunteering. She has published in a range of journals including Human Relations, Human Resource Development International, Teaching in Higher Education and the European Journal of Training and Development. Cheryl is currently co-editor of the journal Action Learning: Research and Practice, and she is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
