Bios:

  • Dr. David McGuire is Professor and Head of HRM Subject Group at Edinburgh Napier University in Scotland. Originally from the West of Ireland, David has spent the past 18 years teaching and researching HRD in Scottish Universities. To date, he has published two textbooks and over 40 articles in refereed international journals. He is currently Associate Editor of Human Resource Development International (2-star journal) and was previously Editor-in-Chief of Industrial and Commercial Training. David’s research focuses on defining and examining the scope and potential of human resource development and deconstructing the speeches of influential leaders.

  • Dr. Jessica Li is Professor of Human Resource Development in the College of Education at the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign, where she serves as the Associate Dean for Research and the Director of the Bureau of Educational Research. Before becoming an academic professor, Jessica worked as a business executive for corporations such as Motorola, Raytheon, and Nokia. Her research explores employee learning, talent development, women leadership, and technology-supported learning and she has over 100 publications, including peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, editorials, a co-authored book, and three edited special issues.

  • Laurel Farrer is an internationally-renowned thought leader on the topic of remote work and virtual organizational development. For the past 17 years, she has been managing distributed workforces and unlocking the power of workplace flexibility to create impact in corporate and socioeconomic infrastructures. Laurel has consulted renowned organizations such as Zoom, Microsoft, and VistaPrint, and has been featured in many major publications such as Forbes, Fast Company, Harvard Business Review, NPR, and BBC. In 2021, she joined GitLab (the world's largest fully-distributed company) as the Director of Workplace, where she continues to pioneer the future of virtual workplace innovation.
